The delay follows a legal dispute over JAMB’s age policy, which bars candidates under 16 from gaining university admission.
ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says a pending court appeal is delaying the release of results for over 40,000 underage candidates who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
“We appealed the ruling. The release of the result is subject to the appeal court ruling,” said Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations.
The delay follows a legal dispute over JAMB’s age policy, which bars candidates under 16 from gaining university admission.
In October 2024, a Delta State High Court declared the policy unconstitutional and discriminatory. JAMB has since appealed the decision.
A 2024 directive had required candidates to turn 16 by August 31, 2025. But the court ordered JAMB and universities to admit qualified candidates regardless of age.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Committee on Education blamed human error—not system failure—for the glitches experienced during the 2025 UTME, which saw over 78% of candidates score below 200.
