JAMB officials walked out of a House Committee session after refusing media presence, prompting threats of arrest.
A mild drama unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday when representatives of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) walked out during a meeting with the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, was absent and sent a Director, Mufutau Bello, to represent him. Trouble began when Bello asked journalists to leave the meeting room, claiming the documents he brought contained sensitive information.
The Committee, however, refused, insisting that its proceedings were public and constitutionally empowered to decide how sittings were conducted.
Visibly angered, Bello ordered his team to leave, prompting lawmakers to direct the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials. However, they had already exited the premises.
The Committee has now ordered Oloyede to appear in person with his management team by Tuesday next week, warning that failure to comply could lead to a warrant of arrest.
