The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over the UTME result of Chinedu Okeke, who emerged as the highest scorer with 375.
JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, announced during the board’s 2025 policy meeting in Abuja that Mr Okeke, an applicant for mechanical engineering at the University of Lagos, had previously been admitted into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to study medicine.
“The law does not allow a student to matriculate twice,” said JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, adding that “we are suspecting that he is a mercenary in the examination.”
Benjamin also said records show Mr Okeke claimed different states of origin: Lagos and the South-East.
JAMB said it contacted UNN, which confirmed that Mr Okeke is a current student and doing well.
Other top scorers include John Ayuba (374), Olayinka Jimoh (373), and several others scoring 372 or above.
