Bluesky spokesperson: “The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity.”
“Hello Bluesky, I’ve been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis,” Vance wrote in his inaugural post. “So I’m thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.” He later shared Justice Clarence Thomas’s concurring opinion on the 6-3 decision, stating, “He argues that many of our so-called ‘experts’ have used bad arguments and substandard science to push experimental therapies on our youth. I might add that many of those scientists are receiving substantial resources from big pharma to push these medicines on kids.”
Within minutes, his account displayed a suspension notice: “Not found. Account has been suspended.” Bluesky later reinstated and verified his profile, attributing the action to automated impersonation detection. “Vice President Vance’s account was briefly flagged by our automated systems that try to detect impersonation attempts which have targeted public figures like him in the past,” a company spokesperson said. “The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity.”
The incident sparked backlash from some users, with one urging others to “report the account and the posts,” while another claimed to have flagged Vance’s post “for misinformation.” Bluesky, which gained traction as a progressive alternative to X after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, has seen its user base triple since late 2024.
