President Joe Biden recently had Mohs surgery to remove skin cancer lesions from his forehead, marking another development in his ongoing health journey following a stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis.
Former President Joe Biden recently underwent Mohs surgery to remove skin cancer lesions from his forehead, his spokesperson Kelly Scully confirmed. The procedure, which removes cancerous skin in successive layers until no abnormal cells remain, was revealed after video footage showed Biden leaving a church in Delaware with a visible scar and bandage above his right eye.
Scully did not disclose the exact timing of the operation or specify the type of skin cancer removed. Mohs surgery, however, is widely used to treat non-melanoma skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, which Biden previously had removed from his chest in February 2023.
The surgery comes months after Biden revealed in May 2025 that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to his bones but remains hormone-sensitive and manageable. “Cancer touches us all,” Biden had said. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”
