Former President Donald Trump is facing unexpected criticism from some of his own supporters following his proposal to impose a 10% across-the-board tariff on imported goods. The plan, which Trump described as a “ring around the U.S. economy,” has drawn pushback from prominent voices on the right, including Joe Rogan, Dave Portnoy, and Ben Shapiro.
“That’s insane,” said Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports. “You can’t do that. It’s going to hurt everybody.”
Podcast host Joe Rogan also expressed skepticism, calling the blanket tariff “crazy,” while conservative commentator Ben Shapiro warned that such a policy would ultimately burden American consumers.
Trump has pitched the tariff as a tool to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign goods. However, critics argue it could raise prices and trigger trade retaliation.
