Lagos APC says Goodluck Jonathan remains a respected elder statesman but lacks the political weight to challenge President Tinubu in 2027.
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan returning to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement on Friday, APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said Jonathan’s political relevance to unseat President Bola Tinubu “remains in doubt,” stressing that the nation needs bold, forward-thinking leadership, not nostalgia.
“Let it be clear: good luck alone is not a governance strategy,” Oladejo stated, recalling the structural weaknesses and corruption that plagued Jonathan’s 2010–2015 administration.
He warned that any comeback bid could spark constitutional and political crises, adding that Jonathan’s recent cross-party engagements raise questions about his loyalty and vision.
“The future of Nigeria does not lie in recycled leadership but in visionary governance rooted in integrity, innovation, and resilience,” Oladejo said.
He described Jonathan as a respected democrat but urged Nigerians to focus on competent leadership instead of sentiment.
