Today the joy is two-fold: there is the joy of Eid al-Adha, and the joy of Nashama qualifying
Jubilant scenes erupted across Jordan late Thursday after the national football team secured its first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup with a resounding 3-0 victory over Oman.
The win, powered by a hat-trick from Ali Olwin, sealed Jordan’s place in the 2026 tournament to be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Their spot was confirmed after South Korea defeated Iraq 2-0.
“This historic qualification is well-deserved by our team. Special thanks go to our loyal fans,” King Abdullah II wrote on X, sharing photos of himself watching the game from London.
Celebrations swept through Amman, where fans honked horns, chanted, and waved flags. A drone light show lit the sky with messages like “We are all with you!”
“Today the joy is two-fold: there is the joy of Eid al-Adha, and the joy of Nashama qualifying,” said Sohad Idrissi.
“It was about time,” added schoolteacher Nashat Badr. “This is a joy we’d been waiting for for a long time.”
