Justice James Omotosho delivered judgment in Nnamdi Kanu’s terrorism trial after ordering his removal from the courtroom for repeated unruly behavior.

Justice James Omotosho has delivered judgment in the terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), after ordering his removal from the courtroom due to persistent unruly behavior, according to a report from PM NEWS.

The incident occurred after the court threw out three applications filed by Kanu seeking to arrest the delivery of the judgment. Following the ruling, Kanu attempted to halt proceedings and refused multiple directives from the judge to sit down and stop interrupting. His conduct led to commotion in the courtroom. Before security operatives escorted him out, Kanu reportedly rained expletives on the judge.

Justice Omotosho briefly retired to his chambers but later returned to proceed with the judgment. Before delivering the ruling, he noted that Kanu had a history of unruly conduct, including verbal attacks on security operatives, lawyers, and the court. He stressed that no one should be allowed to “trample with the sanctity of the court.”

The judge explained that while defendants have a constitutional right to be present during trial, the right is not absolute. “Once you have been given the opportunity and you fail to use that opportunity, such person cannot claim a breach of that right,” he said.

He then ordered that the judgment and all other proceedings continue in Kanu’s absence due to his “aggressiveness and violent nature.”
