As part of the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, aggrieved Nigerians took to the streets of Lagos to protest worsening economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The demonstrators gathered at the Ikeja Underbridge on Wednesday, demanding urgent reversal of several government policies. Their action comes amid widespread frustration over inflation, insecurity, and the rising cost of living.

Despite a strong police presence, protesters held placards with bold inscriptions including “Reverse Electricity Tariff Hike” and “No one deserves a death sentence for protesting against hunger.”

The protest, organised by civil society groups and pro-democracy activists, is one of many held nationwide to draw attention to what critics describe as two years of “misrule.” Demonstrators urged the government to take immediate steps to reduce economic pressure on Nigerians and uphold citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and dissent.
