The Kaduna State Government has issued a final warning to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of attempting to destabilise the state with false claims and divisive politics.
The Kaduna State Government has issued a final warning to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of plotting to destabilise the state under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.
The government’s reaction followed Mr El-Rufai’s comments on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, where he alleged that both the federal and Kaduna governments paid billions of naira to bandits as part of efforts to end insecurity. The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) swiftly debunked the claim on Monday.
In a statement signed by Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Suleiman Shuaibu, the government said it would not “fold its arms and allow a discredited former leader, who left the state in ruins, to ignite chaos and plunge the state into another era of ethno-religious tension, insecurity, and economic stagnation.”
The statement described El-Rufai’s comments as “calculated, malicious lies designed to undermine security efforts, incite public anger, and legitimise criminality.”
It further linked his actions to the electoral losses suffered by his allies, accusing him of refusing to accept Kaduna’s progress under Governor Sani.
The government warned: “No individual, no matter how highly placed or previously powerful, will be allowed to destabilise the state.”
