Ganduje stepped down last week, sparking claims it was linked to party realignments ahead of 2027 elections.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed that Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje resigned as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to health concerns.
Speaking to Channels Television, Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, dismissed speculation of political intrigue.
“I was just with the national Chairman two weeks ago in his house… health issues are what you can never put your eyes or your ears or your mind to,” Kalu said.
Ganduje, a former Kano State governor, stepped down last week, sparking claims it was linked to party realignments ahead of 2027 elections or the potential defection of NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Kalu insisted the resignation was personal: “It’s absolutely his decision to look after his health, after all, health is wealth.”
Kalu stressed Ganduje’s close relationship with President Bola Tinubu, saying: “Nigerians… should believe him because he has no problems with the president,” and described the role of APC chairman as “a quite difficult job to be done.”
The APC has accepted Ganduje’s resignation and is planning his replacement.
