The former vice-president says she was sidelined and denied credit during Biden’s presidency.
Former US Vice-President Kamala Harris has sharply criticised Joe Biden’s 2024 re-election bid, calling it “recklessness” in her forthcoming memoir 107 Days.
“‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.’ We all said that, like a mantra,” Harris wrote in an excerpt published by The Atlantic. “Was it grace, or was it recklessness? In retrospect, I think it was recklessness.”
Harris said at 81, Biden’s age “showed in physical and verbal stumbles,” adding that his choice “should have been more than a personal decision.” She denied any conspiracy to hide his frailty, describing him as “a smart guy with long experience and deep conviction.”
The memoir also recounts Harris feeling sidelined by Biden’s team and unsupported by the White House communications office, especially when Republicans mischaracterised her as “border czar.”
Biden withdrew from the 2024 race after a poor debate showing against Donald Trump. Harris later lost the election. Her book will be released on September 23.
