Islamic groups in Kano protested against U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim of Christian genocide in Nigeria, denouncing his remarks as misleading and inflammatory.

Islamic organisations in Kano State on Saturday held a peaceful protest against recent comments by United States President Donald Trump alleging that Christians in Nigeria are facing genocide.

The protesters, who marched through several parts of Kano, carried placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources.”

Their demonstration was in response to Trump’s earlier declaration that Nigeria had been designated a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious persecution.

The U.S. President also warned that Washington could authorise a military intervention if killings in Nigeria persist.

However, the Nigerian government dismissed Trump’s claims as “inaccurate and misleading,” reaffirming that the country’s Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and that security agencies are addressing threats affecting all communities regardless of faith.

Protest leaders in Kano described Trump’s comments as an attempt to interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs and called for unity among citizens in confronting the nation’s security challenges.
