Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, have repelled a terrorist incursion into Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing 19 bandits but losing two soldiers in the process.
Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, said in a statement that the troops, acting on a tip-off, engaged the bandits around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya and Goron Dutse on November 1, 2025.
“The intervention commenced when gallant troops swiftly responded to reports of bandits’ movements in the area,” the statement read. “Own troops deployed at Tsaure came in contact with the bandits which led to exchange of fire where own troops successfully pursued the bandits and recovered several motorcycles and two mobile phones.”
Zubairu confirmed that two soldiers and a local vigilante were killed. He added that operations are ongoing to secure vulnerable communities and urged citizens to remain vigilant.
