Katsina State revoked all private and community school licences, directing re-registration under its new education reform policy.

The Katsina State Government has revoked the licences of all private and community schools operating across the state, effective August 13, 2025.

In a circular signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, the government said the move is part of its educational reform agenda aimed at ensuring quality assurance, standardisation, and effective regulation of schools.

“The ministry hereby notifies the public, proprietors and administrators of all private and community schools that all the previously issued operational licences have been officially terminated,” the circular stated.

Schools are now required to reapply for licences by submitting payment receipts for registration and renewal fees to the Department of Private and Community Schools on or before September 30, 2025.

The Commissioner stressed that the policy seeks to enhance supervision and accountability. She further warned proprietors that revised fees “must not lead to an increase in school fees without explicit approval from the ministry.”

Normal school operations will continue during the re-registration process.
