“My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and this one is now married to a Nigerian. And our guys around; I don’t know, are you slow? I don’t know…”
Kenyan President William Ruto has playfully raised concerns over a “romantic brain drain,” after both of his daughters married Nigerian men.
Speaking at a recent wedding ceremony, Ruto made light of what he called a growing trend of Kenyan women choosing Nigerian partners. “My daughter is married to a Nigerian, and this one is now married to a Nigerian. And our guys around; I don’t know, are you slow? I don’t know,” he joked.
Captured in a video shared by Africa Facts Zone on X, the President added, “We need to balance this scale because at this rate, we are going to have a brain drain from Kenya.”
While humorous, Ruto’s remarks also reflected on the broader relationship between the two countries. “I think there is something between Kenya and Nigeria, we should pick it up further,” he said, suggesting the marriages were a symbol of deepening diplomatic and cultural ties.
The President’s comments have sparked lighthearted discussion across social media, with many praising the friendly tone and embracing the strengthening Kenya-Nigeria relationship through family and marriage.
