Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, a prominent Nigerian businessman and elder statesman, has died at 94 after a prolonged illness.
Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, a prominent Nigerian businessman and elder statesman, has died at 94 after a prolonged illness. The news was announced via social media by Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, Deputy National Treasurer of NACCIMA.
Born on May 19, 1931, Dantata was the son of Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, one of West Africa’s pioneering merchants. He began his career at Alhassan Dantata and Sons and expanded into real estate, finance, petroleum, and agriculture.
He held public office as a Kano State commissioner and was part of the 1979 Constitution Drafting Committee. He also served as director of the Nigeria Industrial Development Bank.
“He was a pillar of Nigeria’s industrial and democratic development,” said Mijinyawa.
Dantata received honorary degrees from several universities and was awarded the CON and CONN honors. A philanthropist and chancellor of Al-Qalam University, he leaves behind a large family, including wives Rabi and Maimuna, and numerous children.
