“There was noise in the background, but when he finally spoke, he screamed that he had been kidnapped and told a colleague to send ₦20m for his release.”
The abductors of six Nigerian Law School students have demanded a ransom of ₦20m each, totaling ₦120m, for their release.
The students, identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David, were kidnapped on Saturday while travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to the Yola campus in Adamawa.
A classmate, Damilare Adenola, confirmed the abduction, saying the incident occurred along the Wukari–Benue route, a notorious hotspot for insecurity.
Another student, Chisom, said, “When I tried one of them again, he picked up the call. There was noise in the background, but when he finally spoke, he screamed that he had been kidnapped and told a colleague to send ₦20m for his release.”
Adamawa Police spokesperson Yahaya Suleiman confirmed awareness of the incident but noted it happened outside the state’s jurisdiction. Security agencies in Benue and Adamawa are reportedly working together to secure the victims’ release.
