Nelson Adepoyigi, Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been killed by his kidnappers despite the payment of a ₦5 million ransom.
Adepoyigi was abducted in Ifon, and two community members who delivered the ransom and food items were also briefly kidnapped before being released.
Confirming the incident, Ose LGA Chairman Clement Ojo said, “The entire leadership and people of Ose Local Government mourn this tragic loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased.”
Ojo described the worsening insecurity in the area as “a serious threat to the safety and freedom of our people” and called for swift security intervention.
The body of Mr Adepoyigi has yet to be recovered.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Olutokunbo Afolabi, said investigations are ongoing, with special officers deployed to Ifon to verify the circumstances surrounding the killing.
