Kogi University lecturer dies in hotel during sexual encounter with student

A senior lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died after allegedly engaging in a sexual encounter with a female student.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a hotel in Anyigba and was reported by hotel manager Moses Friday, who said the 22-year-old student, Gloria Samuel, rushed to the reception to report that the lecturer had collapsed after their encounter.

Spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate. “An autopsy has been conducted to determine the cause of death,” he told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Ibikunle, who was married with children, was said to have checked in earlier that day with the 200-level student of the Department of Social Studies Education.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the student has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation.

Unconfirmed reports claim the lecturer consumed multiple energy drinks before the incident.
