Pastor Kumuyi has modified Deeper Life’s marriage rules, lifting visitation and courtship restrictions, saying they are not biblical but administrative.

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has announced adjustments to the church’s marriage rules, describing them as administrative and not scriptural.

Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Kumuyi said the ban preventing a lady from visiting a man she intended to marry has been lifted, allowing visits during courtship if an elder is present.

He also clarified that the six-month mandatory courtship period is no longer compulsory. “We just felt you need some time to know one another. Six months is all right, but it’s not something inflexible. If we change it to three months, we’re not changing the Bible, because six months is not in the Bible,” he said.

Kumuyi stressed that church committees exist only for guidance and warned leaders against overstepping their limits, reminding Christians to differentiate between God’s commandments and human traditions.
