“I don’t know of any greater political sin than when vulnerable people vote for you… and you turn around to join those same enemies after winning.”
Former Kano State governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned post-election defections, calling them “the greatest political sin.”
Speaking in Kano on Saturday while receiving new NNPP members from Takai LGA, Kwankwaso described defectors as betrayers of public trust.
“This is the highest form of betrayal in a democratic setting,” he said. “I don’t know of any greater political sin than when vulnerable people vote for you… and you turn around to join those same enemies after winning.”
His comments follow recent defections by prominent Kano politicians from NNPP to APC. Kwankwaso warned that fighting the Kwankwasiyya movement “is a grave mistake for any politician.”
He recalled the group’s resilience since 2015 and reiterated its focus on the common man. “This movement is for the people… not about money,” he said. “The poor now understand everything, and that’s what brought us to this moment.”
He urged members to “go back to your communities and bring more people on board.”
