Residents of Sokupkpan community in Kwara State have lynched their Chief Imam, Abdulahi Audu, over allegations linking him to the death of a resident, Ibrahim Gana, whom he was accused of afflicting through witchcraft.
According to SaharaReporters reporting, the Chief Imam of Sokupkpan community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, Abdulahi Audu, was lynched on Wednesday by angry residents who accused him of causing the death of a local man, Ibrahim Gana.
Sources said Gana, before his death, had repeatedly alleged that the Imam was the spiritual cause of his deteriorating health, claiming he saw him attacking him in his dreams. When Gana later died, tension spread through the community, leading some residents to believe the cleric was responsible.
A mob, allegedly led by Mohammed Shaba, Mamudu Gana, and Ndakpotun Issa, attacked and beat the Imam to death in broad daylight despite efforts by elders to stop them.
Police from the Tsaragi Division reportedly arrested the three suspects linked to the killing. The slain Imam was buried on Wednesday evening according to Islamic rites, while the Kwara State Police Command has yet to release an official statement.
