Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has blamed Bukola Saraki and the PDP for Kwara’s worsening insecurity, citing the 2018 Offa bank robbery, but critics say he is avoiding responsibility.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has linked Kwara State’s worsening insecurity to former Senate President Bukola Saraki, accusing him of hypocrisy over the 2018 Offa bank robbery that claimed 33 lives.
Speaking in Oke-Ode on Thursday, the governor insisted Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacked the moral ground to criticise his administration’s handling of kidnappings and killings across the state.
“It was under PDP. Bukola Saraki bears a court statement that he is the leader of PDP in Kwara. Under his leadership, 33 people were killed in one day,” AbdulRazaq said in a viral video circulated by his media aides. He further alleged that the robbers were Saraki’s loyalists, claiming they wore “Aso Ebi of Saraki’s wedding” and used vehicles bearing his name.
AbdulRazaq added: “Thank God the culprits have been sentenced to death now. Saraki himself is in court because the families of Offa victims have taken him to court.”
The remarks have sparked controversy as residents accuse the governor of politicising insecurity rather than addressing recent bandit attacks that have left over 100 people dead.
Meanwhile, villagers continue to flee communities in Patigi, Essanti, and Marri amid sustained kidnappings and killings.
