Kwara State has ordered the immediate closure of schools in five LGAs due to rising security concerns in the region.

Kwara State has directed the immediate closure of schools across five local government areas in the Kwara South senatorial district to address emerging security threats, according to a report from TRIBUNE ONLINE.

The directive, issued by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, affects schools in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero LGAs. He explained that the government had activated what he described as proactive security measures aimed at ensuring a safer learning environment for children in the affected communities.

Dr. Olohungbebe noted that the closure was part of efforts to curb the activities of kidnappers who may attempt to use schoolchildren as human shields amid intensified security crackdowns in the region. “The measures also cover the boarding schools in Irepodun, which could be targets of the criminals who are running for cover amidst widening security operations,” he said.

He added that the directive would remain in place pending further security clearance to allow normal academic activities to resume.

The state government assured parents and residents that the temporary action underscores its commitment to safeguarding students and staff as security agencies intensify operations to restore stability in affected areas.
