The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared the Labour Party open to all Nigerians, regardless of class, religion, or ethnicity, but warned that it is not for sale.

Speaking at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, NLC President Joe Ajaero alleged that government agencies were involved in plots to destabilise the party. “They must be told to remove their hands from the organisation of the Workers’ Party. That is a sin,” he said.

He defended the party’s union roots and slammed attempts to use the Supreme Court to meddle in internal matters. “It is not the Supreme Court that constitutes the Labour Party,” Ajaero asserted.

He also decried the commercialisation of politics, noting that the Labour Party rejects exorbitant nomination fees. “We are in politics to add value to society, not to profit from people’s misery,” he added.

Board of Trustees Chair, Dr. Sylvester Ejiofor, urged members to uphold the constitution and consent judgment guiding the party.
