Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja has been officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, succeeding the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
Former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The traditional ceremony took place on Friday at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, drawing a large crowd of indigenes and dignitaries.
Earlier, Ladoja received the symbolic Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, a key ritual preceding his formal investiture. Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to present the staff and instrument of office to the new monarch at the historic Mapo Hall later today.
LEADERSHIP reports that Ladoja emerged as Olubadan-designate following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who “joined his ancestors on Monday, July 7, 2025.”
Security around the city has been tightened ahead of the governor’s arrival and the official public celebration of Ibadan’s newest royal leader. Residents described the event as “a unifying moment for the ancient city,” marking the continuation of a revered traditional succession process.
