The Lagos State House of Assembly’s 2025 budget has sparked controversy over N4.5 billion for generators, N20.6 billion for vehicles, and other high-value allocations amid ongoing corruption allegations.

A review of the Lagos State 2025 budget shows the State House of Assembly has earmarked N4.5 billion to purchase 40 units of 50KVA generators, with each generator valued at N90.7 million. The budget document lists the project as: “Purchase and installation of forty 50 KVA Generators.” It is unclear if the generators are meant for each of the 40 lawmakers.

The budget also includes N20.6 billion for vehicles, comprising 40 backup vehicles, 40 utility buses, and 40 official cars. If fully expended, vehicle allocations for lawmakers from 2023 to 2025 will total N65 billion.

Additional allocations include N6.2 billion for properties in Lagos and Abuja, N500 million for guest houses and quarters, N30.3 billion for fencing and landscaping, and N11.041 billion for rehabilitation of the Assembly complex.

Allegations of financial mismanagement persist, with activists urging EFCC to probe alleged misuse of funds, including N200 million for a thanksgiving event that critics argue “should not have cost more than N2 million.”
