Lagos demolitions: APC says actions are lawful and necessary

APC says Lagos demolitions are lawful and aimed at ensuring safety, order, and urban renewal across the state.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the ongoing demolition of illegal structures, saying no responsible government would ignore threats to public safety or obstructed development.

APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said in a statement on Tuesday that the enforcement followed due process and multiple warnings before any action was taken.

“The exercise is not an act of cruelty but a necessary measure to prevent avoidable disasters and restore sanity to areas affected by unplanned developments,” he said.

Oladejo noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration had shown restraint by engaging stakeholders and granting several compliance extensions.

He added that the demolitions are part of a broader plan for urban renewal and sustainable growth, cautioning against politicising the exercise.

“Lagos will continue to enforce its laws without fear or favour while prioritising the safety, dignity, and prosperity of all residents,” Oladejo said.
