Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, says activist Omoyele Sowore remains wanted for allegedly plotting protests to disrupt public peace.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, says political activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore remains wanted, with directives for his arrest anywhere in Nigeria.
Speaking during a ‘Show of Force’ operation on the Third Mainland Bridge on Friday, Jimoh said the move followed intelligence reports of plans by Sowore and his associates to stage violent protests.
“Sowore is known for his antics. He is ignorant of the law and arrogant. I have declared him wanted,” the commissioner said.
Jimoh added that 13 suspects linked to the planned protest had been arrested, and a vehicle intended to block the bridge was recovered.
Sowore, however, rejected the declaration, calling it “unlawful” and arguing that the police lacked a court-issued warrant.
But the commissioner maintained that the police acted within their constitutional powers, saying, “I deem it fit to declare Sowore wanted because of his threat to the peace and welfare of Lagos residents.”
