Lagos police will arraign NURTW leader Shamsideen “Shameleon” Adio on Friday for allegedly killing a dispatch rider in a street altercation.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that it will arraign a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsideen Adio, popularly known as Shameleon, on Friday over the alleged killing of a dispatch rider in Lagos Island.

Adio, 55, was arrested after a scuffle on Tapa Street on September 17, during which he allegedly attacked the victim after his vehicle was blocked.

Witnesses said the situation escalated when Adio’s friends joined in, repeatedly striking the rider with fists and a helmet until he collapsed. He was later confirmed dead in hospital.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed Adio and an associate punching the rider as bystanders watched without intervening, sparking public outrage.

Police spokesman Bababseyi Oluseyi confirmed that Adio is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti-Yaba, and would be arraigned this week.

The Lagos State House of Assembly also weighed in, with Transportation Committee Chairman Adewale Adedeji calling the incident “barbaric, shameful, inhuman, and heartbreaking.” He urged NURTW leadership to suspend Adio and ensure accountability.
