Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church has broken his silence on a viral video showing him pointing a pistol-like object at a driver during Lagos traffic, calling it a “misunderstanding.” In a statement, Adefarasin clarified, “I want to assure you… that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone” . The incident occurred when an unnamed car spotter filming Adefarasin’s Range Rover prompted the pastor to roll down his window and raise the object, leading the spotter to apologize profusely (“Boss, sorry sir!”.

The video ignited fierce online debate. While some defended the act as necessary self-defense in Lagos’s volatile traffic, others condemned it as intimidation by a cleric. Instagram user @Iambukacavity quipped, “I fear general overseers pass armed robbers… they operate like mafias” . Speculation about the object ranged from a shocker device (“temporarily paralyzes attackers”) to an illegal firearm .

Adefarasin pledged to address the controversy during Sunday service, calling the backlash “mischief” . The church has not confirmed the object’s nature, though critics demand transparency..
