The Lagos State Government has reiterated its demand for ride-hailing firms like Bolt and Uber to share transport data with regulators to enhance safety, planning, and accountability.
The Lagos State Government has renewed its call for ride-hailing companies such as Bolt and Uber to comply with existing data-sharing regulations aimed at improving safety and efficiency in the city’s transport system.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, represented by the Director of Transport Operations, Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, said transparent data was essential for mobility, enforcement, and public safety. “Reliable data is the backbone of effective planning, regulation, enforcement, and public safety,” he said.
Osiyemi explained that operators are required to share verified driver and vehicle profiles, trip records, incident logs, and other datasets with the government, noting that such information enables better infrastructure planning and emergency response. “These datasets are not for surveillance but for safety assurance and transparency,” he added.
He commended Bolt for commissioning the independent safety report, describing it as a “forward-thinking initiative” aligned with the THEMES+ Agenda on Traffic Management and Transportation.
Osiyemi reaffirmed the state’s commitment to building a data-driven, inclusive, and safe transport system through stronger public-private collaboration.
