The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has ordered transport unions to stop using unauthorised “Union Stickers,” warning of vehicle impoundment and legal sanctions for violators
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to transport unions and related associations to immediately stop the unauthorised use of “Union Stickers” as vehicle registration identifiers.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki described the practice as “a serious violation of regulatory frameworks,” adding that it poses security risks and undermines official vehicular identification systems.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Bakare-Oki emphasised that all vehicles must be properly registered through government agencies empowered to enforce traffic regulations. He noted that unofficial stickers jeopardise public safety, hamper law enforcement, and weaken statutory registration procedures.
“Any vehicle discovered navigating the roadways under the guise of ‘Union Sticker’ identifiers, or other unauthorised symbols, shall be summarily impounded, and the culpable parties shall face full sanctions under the provisions of the law,” Bakare-Oki warned.
He said LASTMA, working with security agencies, will intensify surveillance across key routes to ensure compliance and urged transport unions to follow lawful registration requirements to safeguard all Lagos residents.
