Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal will miss Sunday’s La Liga clash with Valencia after sustaining a minor injury during international duty, manager Hansi Flick confirmed on Saturday.
The 17-year-old was absent from training in the morning, and Flick expressed frustration over Spain’s handling of the youngster. “No, he will not be available. It’s a shame. He went to the national team in pain, played and was given painkillers to play,” the coach told reporters.
“He played 79 minutes and 73, that’s not taking care of the players. Spain has the best players in every position. It would be worth taking care of the young players. I’m sad about the situation,” Flick added.
The German coach said Yamal is suffering from discomfort in his pubic bone, making him doubtful for Barcelona’s upcoming Champions League tie against Newcastle.
Yamal has started all three of Barcelona’s league matches this season, but Flick will now be forced to adjust his lineup for Valencia’s visit.
