The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to allocate the 753-unit housing estate forfeited by former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to IDPs and low-income Nigerians under a transparent and accountable framework.

The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to allocate the 753-unit housing estate recovered from former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele to internally displaced persons, low- and middle-income earners, and other vulnerable Nigerians.

Adopting a motion sponsored by Jafaru Leko on Tuesday, lawmakers directed the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to publish a transparent allocation framework within 60 days, detailing usage plans, criteria, and beneficiary selection.

The estate, comprising duplexes and apartments at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma, Abuja, was recently handed over to the ministry by the EFCC following a final forfeiture order.

The House noted that Nigeria’s housing deficit exceeds 17 million units and warned that without proper oversight, the recovered property could be cornered by privileged elites.

It further advocated for a national database of forfeited assets to ensure public tracking and mandated its Housing Committee to monitor the process and report within four weeks.
