No fewer than four former ministers under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari have dumped the APC and joined the Atiku Abubakar-led coalition, now operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ahead of the 2027 elections.

Four ministers who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari have officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), aligning with the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Those who defected include Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Minister of Interior, who has been named interim national secretary of the ADC; Abubakar Malami, former Attorney General, who said his defection was driven by patriotism; Rotimi Amaechi, ex-Transportation Minister, who accused the APC of ruining Nigeria; and Hadi Sirika, ex-Aviation Minister, who appeared at the ADC event despite facing corruption charges.

The defections come two years after Buhari’s exit and amid growing discontent with Tinubu’s administration. “Nigeria is bleeding,” Malami said. Amaechi added, “The country needs to be completely changed.”

Their alignment marks a strategic boost for the opposition ahead of the next general elections.
