Alexander Isak has told Newcastle he wants to leave as Liverpool prepare a British record bid of £130m.
Alexander Isak’s potential switch to Liverpool is nearing completion, with sources indicating that a Premier League record bid is expected before the transfer window closes on Monday.
Newcastle United have agreed a £69.2m deal with Stuttgart for German striker Nick Woltemade, a move that could pave the way for Isak’s departure. Manager Eddie Howe is also pursuing further attacking reinforcements, including Wolverhampton’s Jorgen Strand Larsen and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
The Magpies value Isak at £150m and have already rejected a £110m offer earlier this month. Liverpool are expected to table an opening bid of £130m plus add-ons, which would set a new British transfer record.
Isak, 25, has been training away from the first team after a breakdown in relations with Newcastle, where fans have turned on him following his insistence on leaving despite leading the club to its first domestic trophy in 70 years. He has accused the club of breaking promises over a potential move.
Liverpool, who also signed Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz this summer, remain determined to bring the Sweden international to Anfield.
