Carragher said Kerkez’s dive was “absolutely stupid” as the Liverpool defender was replaced after 37 minutes at Turf Moor.
Liverpool’s Milos Kerkez was withdrawn after just 37 minutes against Burnley on Sunday, moments after Jamie Carragher branded his actions “absolutely stupid.”
The 21-year-old, making his first start since the international break, was booked for diving under minimal pressure from Josh Laurent. Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher criticised the Hungarian: “I mean it was a dive, no doubt about that. It was so theatrical. I don’t think there’s any contact there really, and he’s in a good position. I think he can hook his foot around that and get a cross in. It was absolutely stupid.”
Manager Arne Slot quickly replaced Kerkez with Andy Robertson, prompting Carragher to add: “That’s good management from Slot. What Kerkez did in the first half – with the booking – was ridiculous.”
Former England midfielder Leon Osman suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live that the substitution could have been injury-related, saying: “He must have picked up some injury.”
