Liverpool’s summer rebuild is well underway with major deals for Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and more, as sporting director Richard Hughes proves his doubters wrong.
Liverpool have wasted no time reshaping their squad under new boss Arne Slot, with a £190m transfer spree already headlined by Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. A £116m package has been agreed with Bayer Leverkusen for Wirtz, who is set to become the club’s record signing after finalising his medical.
Frimpong joined earlier for £29.5m, alongside goalkeeper Armin Pecsi. Sporting director Richard Hughes also negotiated a £10m exit for Trent Alexander-Arnold and sanctioned Caoimhin Kelleher’s £18m move to Brentford. Talks are ongoing to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, a player Hughes previously recruited.
Kerkez’s father confirmed personal terms are done: “It’s only Liverpool for us… Richard Hughes keeps his promises.”
Hughes, criticised after a quiet first window, is earning plaudits for his assertive summer moves, including securing new deals for Van Dijk and Salah. With more incomings and outgoings expected, Hughes’ influence has shifted Liverpool from uncertainty to dominance.
This transfer window is only just beginning.
