Hugo Ekitike’s red card rules him out of Liverpool’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss Saturday’s Premier League game at Crystal Palace after being sent off against Southampton in the Carabao Cup. The French forward, who had already been booked for dissent, received a second yellow card when he removed his shirt to celebrate scoring the late winner in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory.

The suspension applies to the next domestic fixture, ruling him out of the trip to Selhurst Park. That could pave the way for British record signing Alexander Isak to make his first league start for the Reds after opening the scoring on Tuesday night. Isak, who joined from Newcastle on deadline day, said he is gaining match fitness. “I feel good. With every game I play it is very helpful and gets me in better shape,” he told ITV.

Liverpool fans and Fantasy Premier League players expressed frustration at Ekitike’s costly dismissal.
