Lopsided Appointments: Tinubu’s appointments list error sparks fresh bias allegations

The Presidency has apologised for the errors in the list of appointments made by President Bola Tinubu since May 29, 2023.

The Presidency has apologized for omissions in its list of President Tinubu’s appointees after critics highlighted missing names, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, fueling claims of regional bias.

Special Adviser on Media, Sunday Dare, released the list to counter Senator Ali Ndume’s allegation of federal character violations but faced backlash for excluding key South-West figures like Gbajabiamila and Immigration CG Kemi Nandap. The initial data showed 29 South-West appointees—Tinubu’s home region—compared to just 16 from the South-East, intensifying criticism of regional imbalance. Dare later apologized on X, stating, “We have noticed errors… We are sorry. We will provide an updated list.” However, he didn’t explain Gbajabiamila’s omission.

The incomplete list reignited debates over equitable representation, with critics arguing it reinforced perceptions of lopsided appointments. Analysts note the South-East’s underrepresentation contrasts with the North-West’s 35 slots, raising questions about adherence to constitutional diversity principles.
