Governor Seyi Makinde faulted the Tinubu administration for failing to disclose the Lagos-Calabar highway’s average cost per kilometre, accusing Works Minister Umahi of lacking transparency
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to disclose the average cost per kilometre of the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. Speaking at a stakeholders’ budget meeting in Ibadan on Thursday, Makinde accused Works Minister David Umahi of evading transparency when questioned about the project’s expenses. “Asked a minister how much is the coastal road and then you’re dancing around… Then what is the average cost?” he queried.
Makinde compared the project with his administration’s infrastructure works, citing the Moniya–Iseyin road at “153 million per kilometre” and the Iseyin–Ogbomosho road at “500 million and something per kilometre.” He insisted that cost transparency was “not rocket science.” Umahi, however, had argued that “the project has not been designed” and that cost per kilometre varies by terrain, stressing that the works across five states reflect Tinubu’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s transport network.
