French police arrested a man and boy in Paris after finding €10 million worth of stolen jewellery, including items hidden in a sock inside one suspect’s underwear.

Two Tunisian nationals, a man and a boy, have been arrested in Paris after police uncovered a €10 million jewellery haul, part of which was hidden in a sock inside one suspect’s underwear.

The arrests took place at Gare de Lyon station on Saturday during a routine police check, local media reported. Officers discovered a necklace valued at €5 million, earrings worth €2 million, a €1 million ring and a Rolex watch. An angle grinder was also found in their suitcase.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed it had opened an “investigation into theft by an organised gang.” The case has been transferred to the Paris Banditry Repression Brigade (BRB), with a judicial inquiry scheduled to begin on September 1.

Reports indicated the pair were already known to police before the incident and were checked as they disembarked a TGV train.

The arrests come amid a series of high-value jewellery thefts in Europe, including a £500,000 raid in southeast London last December.
