Manchester United are still in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres and have made a ‘concrete move’ for the striker, according to L’Equipe. The Sporting Lisbon star has scored 53 goals in 51 games this season and is expected to leave this summer.
Despite a disappointing Premier League campaign, United are reportedly ready to accelerate their pursuit of the Sweden international after Wednesday’s Europa League final. A win over Tottenham in Bilbao would secure Champions League football—an important factor in Gyokeres’ decision.
The striker has a release clause of £85m, though Sporting are reportedly willing to negotiate between £60m and £70m to avoid a transfer saga. Arsenal are also in the race, with new sporting director Andrea Berta keen on the 25-year-old.
“It’s football, I’m still here. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Nobody can predict the future,” Gyokeres told Sport TV.
United are also close to signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with a £62m deal nearing completion.
