A yet-to-be-identified man is battling for his life after being doused with hot groundnut oil by a mob for allegedly stealing from a market near the Alakara Police Station in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Friday when the suspect, pretending to be a customer, reportedly stole a bottle of groundnut oil. A witness said,
“He pretended to be a customer, and while the owner of the shop was busy attending to others, he lifted a bottle of groundnut oil and left.”

He was allegedly caught, stripped, and beaten by the mob before they heated the oil and poured it on his back while he was unconscious. His body was later found in a gutter on Sunday by a resident, Omoluabi Ifeoluwa, who alerted authorities.

The Divisional Police Officer confirmed that health officials and police evacuated the victim to a hospital after he was initially denied treatment at a general hospital.
