NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa has vowed an intensified fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria, emphasizing prevention, rehabilitation, and seizure of illegal assets.

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohamed Buba Marwa, has reiterated his agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking, warning that traffickers and drug barons will face intensified enforcement under his renewed tenure, **according to a report from CHANNELS TV.

Reappointed by President Bola Tinubu for another five-year term, Marwa addressed staff at NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, declaring, “This second tenure is going to be hell and bleak for them. Drugs shall not pass — in or out or within Nigeria.”

He urged individuals involved in trafficking or illegal cultivation to abandon the trade, stressing, “This is the right time for them to drop that criminal business and face something legitimate. If you refuse, you will be arrested, the drugs will be seized, and your assets will be confiscated. You will come out of jail to find nothing left.”

Marwa thanked the President, agency personnel, and local and international partners for their support, framing his reappointment as a call for deeper commitment. He also highlighted NDLEA’s rehabilitation and prevention plans, announcing the construction of seven new rehabilitation centres in 2025 to ensure each state has one.

In addition, he noted recent approval for drug testing of students entering tertiary institutions to detect substance use early.

“We are rededicating our efforts to prevention, counseling, treatment, and rehabilitation,” he said, reinforcing the agency’s holistic approach to curbing drug abuse nationwide.
