Sources within the university community told Daily Independent that over 30 female students were raped in the coordinated assault.
The ongoing security crisis in Nasarawa State has intensified after a horrifying attack on the Federal University of Lafia on July 26, 2025.
A convoy of armed bandits reportedly stormed student communities surrounding the university — including Akunza, Gandu, and Burkan Kwato — unleashing mass violence, rape, and killings.
Sources within the university community told Daily Independent that over 30 female students were raped in the coordinated assault.
“The operation is similar to the Boko Haram episode in the Chibok and Dapchi Girls Kidnap incident,” one witness said. “Male students who resisted the invasion were brutally butchered… The bandits left a trail of blood, tears and sorrow.”
Despite the scale of the atrocity, both local and national media remained largely silent. “It appears the non-media coverage is a deliberate strategy of conspiracy of silence by the ruling political class of the state,” another source added.
However, the Nasarawa State Police PRO, Ramhan Nansel, disputed the report, stating, “It was armed robbery… one lady was robbed and a male student injured. Thirty rapes? That’s sensational and false.”
The incident has ignited urgent calls for protection of students, housing reform, and national accountability.
