Matthew McConaughey opened up about his mother’s unusual reaction after his father, James Donald McConaughey, died of a heart attack during sex.
Speaking to the Guardian about his new book, “Poems & Prayers,” the actor recounted the circumstances surrounding his father’s death in 1992 at age 62.
“When I got that call, it was a Monday afternoon… Mom said: ‘Your dad has moved on,’ but she didn’t tell me on the initial call how.
When I got back, she told me,” McConaughey said. Paramedics arrived to find James naked, but his mother insisted he remain uncovered. “My mom wasn’t into standing on ceremony… Don’t be covering that man up! He’s in his birthday suit, and he’s right there,” he recalled.
Matthew also reflected on his parents’ tumultuous relationship, noting they married three times, divorced twice, and maintained a strict household emphasizing respect and clear expectations.
The actor highlighted the strong discipline and moral code enforced by his God-fearing parents.
